Vol. 250 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - FCA Uniform.

89.

asked the Minister for Defence if there are any proposals before his Department for the issue of an improved type of uniform and boots to members of the FCA.

Arrangements have been made for the introduction of an improved cloth for the uniform of An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil, issues of which will, I hope, commence in about 18 months time. The boots issued to Army personnel are also issued to members of An Forsa and no change in pattern is at present contemplated.

Would the Minister state if in fact there will be an improvement in design as well as an improvement in the cloth?

This is being looked into.

I am sure the Minister, who is a very reasonable man, will agree with me that the cloth used for the FCA uniform is bad but the design is 1,000 times worse. They all appear to have been made for the one man and he was not very well made.
