Vol. 251 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Value of £1.

23.

andMr. G. Lynch asked the Taoiseach the value of £1 at 1st January, 1971, as compared with 1st January, 1964.

It is estimated on the basis of the consumer price index numbers that £1 at mid-November, 1970, would purchase the same quantum of goods and services at retail prices as 13s 7d would have purchased at mid-November, 1963. The index numbers are calculated only in respect of mid-February, mid-May, mid-August and mid-November.

You could double your social welfare benefits then.
