asked the Minister for Health if he is aware that defects have been observed in the new maternity unit at the Mayo County Surgical Hospital; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The up-to-date position is that the arbitrator appointed to decide on certain difficulties which arose out of contracts for the erection of an admission and treatment unit and a maternity unit at Castlebar has issued his findings. The steps to be taken as a result of the arbitrator's findings are a matter for the Health Authority in the first instance and I understand that it will be considered at their meeting to be held on 15th February.
