Vol. 251 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - North Galway Electricity Supply.

18.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he is aware of the acute shortage of ESB power in North Galway; and if the steps necessary to have the position improved will be taken.

I have been informed by the ESB that they are aware of the growing demand for supply in north Galway and to meet this demand, they had planned to have a new 110 kV Station in Castlebar completed before the present winter. Commencement of work on the station was delayed due to wayleave and legal difficulties and the station will not now be completed until later this year. Interim measures to improve the supply, including the commissioning recently of a 10 kV booster station near Dunmore village, have been taken by the board.

In the meantime, complaints regarding supply to specific consumers in the North Galway area should be referred for action to the district manager in Galway or to the group engineer in Tuam.
