Vol. 251 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Donegal Vocational Schools.

98.

asked the Minister for Education what steps are being taken to provide proper toilet facilities at Gortahork vocational school, County Donegal; and what the up-to-date position is regarding same.

99.

asked the Minister for Education what the up-to-date position is in connection with the extension to the vocational school at Gortahork, County Donegal; and if he will give details of the extensions proposed and sanctioned.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 98 and 99 together.

I have under consideration at present proposals for an extension to Gortahork vocational school, for a new secondary school in Falcarragh and for a new vocational school in Creeslough. The proposed extension to Gortahork vocational school consists of one science room, one general purpose room, one library, cloak room, staff room and additional toilet facilities, and the cost has been estimated by County Donegal Vocational Education Committee at £25,000. The cost of the proposed new school in Falcarragh has been estimated at £134,000, and the proposed new school in Creeslough would probably cost another £80,000 or so. In the circumstances and allowing for the relatively low enrolments in the existing schools, the Deputy will appreciate that none of these proposals can be considered in isolation. The provision for post-primary education in the whole area is at present under consideration and no decision in relation to it can be made for some time.
