Vol. 251 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Montpelier School Deputation.

109.

asked the Minister for Education if he is willing to meet a deputation from the Montpelier school parents committee; and, if not, why.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to a question on this matter on 29th October last. I have nothing to add to that reply.

Surely the situation has changed since 29th October last? Is the Minister not aware that the Bishop of Killaloe has expressed a desire that the school be kept open? While members on these benches are supposed to be notoriously uninterested in episcopal statements, I would have thought that a Minister of a Fianna Fáil Government would be more sensitive in this matter than we are? Does the Minister really think it adequate to tell me that nothing has changed since 29th October?

This matter has been discussed at length in this House. I have given my reasons for making my decision. I believe it was the right decision and I do not propose to change it.
