Vol. 251 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Estate.

26.

asked the Minister for Lands when the Land Commission intend to allot the Gordon estate, Milltown, County Galway, to the successful applicants.

An area of 20 acres, with the existing buildings, on this 213 acre estate has already been allotted. Proposals have now been drafted for the main portion —193 acres—of the property which envisage extensive restructuring and re-arrangement of small holdings in the district. These proposals are as yet preliminary but they are under active consideration just now.

Could the Minister tell me if this land will be given out by the 1st April, which is the usual time for the Land Commission to allot land?

I could not promise that. I think the Deputy already knows that the amount of restructuring and rearranging which has to be done is quite considerable. I gather there are 131 acres to be surrendered by exchangees so I do not think that it would be realistic to hope that it would be done by the 1st April.
