Vol. 251 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drogheda Arms Theft.

32.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware of the theft of arms from Drogheda Garda Station; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As has been explained to the House on other occasions, it is not open to me to make statements about Garda investigations that are still in progress.

I understand the Minister is not in a position to give an account yet? Has he not instituted investigations into this matter?

As I stated in the reply, investigations are still in progress.

How long will they take?

No one can foresee how long they will take, but I imagine they will take until such time as someone is charged. I understand that they have reached an advanced stage but I cannot say any more about it.

In view of this information, a Cheann Comhairle, may I put the question down next week?

The Deputy must give notice on another day.

If someone is charged by next week the matter will be sub judice.

I understand.
