Vol. 251 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Domestic Incomes.

3.

asked the Taoiseach the percentage domestic income in the following categories of population for a 12 month period to the latest convenient date: (a) wages and salaries, (b) farmers' incomes, (c) other domestic incomes and (d) industrial profits; and the number of people covered in each category.

The latest information available is that contained in a reply to a similar question by the Deputy on 23rd July, 1970. [Dáil Debates, Vol. 248 No. 12 cols. 1891-1892.]

Is it not true that the gap between the farmers' income and that of other sections of the community is now over £8 a week and that farmers, self-employed, though representing about 32 per cent of the people are getting only between 17 and 18 per cent of the national income? True or false? Is that not quite true? Does silence give consent?

Question No. 4.

The Parliamentary Secretary knows the gap is getting wider and wider and the Government have no answer to it. The gap is getting wider and wider and they are doing nothing about it.
