Vol. 252 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - North-South Discussions.

1.

asked the Taoiseach whether joint talks at Departmental level are intended following his latest exchange with the Stormont Premier; and what follow-up action is intended by him in the matter.

In my speech on the 20th February, I suggested a number of economic matters which I thought that North and South should examine together: I attached no political considerations. In my statement of the 25th February in response to press inquiries, I said that I was hopeful that we could soon proceed to expert examination of practical matters in economic development in which North and South could agree to co-operate for the benefit of everyone.

That is still my position. Ministers of Government and senior officials are available for consultation with their opposite numbers as soon as the Stormont Government are ready to partake in such discussions.
