Vol. 252 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Authority Housing Lists.

44.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number on the housing list of Dublin Corporation; and whether any national list is maintained in his Department comprising an annual register of those in the State on local authority waiting lists.

The number of cases on Dublin Corporation's approved list for rehousing, as revised last November, was 4,964, including 484 elderly persons, 290 families living in dangerous or unfit premises and 490 cases which were then in course of inspection and were considered likely to be included in the approved list.

No national list of applicants for local authority housing is maintained in my Department. I am, however, kept informed by monthly progress reports submitted by each housing authority of the housing needs position in each area.

What is the total housing need taken from the Minister's national list?

It changes from month to month. An assessment was made in the White Paper "Housing in the Seventies" which stated that about 60,000 houses were needed, taking everything into consideration, including the replacement of existing and obsolete houses.
