Vol. 252 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mineral Development Revenue.

34.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state in respect of the year 1970 the total amount of receipts by the State, including royalties, under the Mineral Development Acts.

Particulars of receipts under the Minerals Development Acts, 1940 and 1960 are contained in the reports laid before the Oireachtas in accordance with the requirements of the Acts. However, for the convenience of the Deputy, I may say that total receipts, including royalties, under these Acts for the year ended 31st December, 1970 amounted to £502,777.

Can the Minister state what was the capital amount of minerals exported in that period?

I have not got that figure.

Can the Minister state the total export value of the ore in relation to the figure of £502,777? We have the figure for the first half of 1970 but not for the year.

I have given a figure of £502,777——

This figure includes royalties paid on a stipulated amount of recovered ore. Purely on a factual basis I was interested to find out the total tonnage of ore extracted and the export value.

Also, what percentage this represents?

I have not the figure. The royalties work out at between 4 per cent and 10 per cent.

That would be worth about £6 million or £7 million?

It is a graded job, as well.

You are giving away £7 million.

That is not so. The Deputy should be careful about that.

I am calling Question No. 35.
