The amount per head of the population taken in total taxation in the year 1970-71 is estimated at £173. The corresponding figures for the years 1968-69 and 1969-70 are £126 and £149 respectively.
Total taxation, as defined in the national accounts, comprises taxes on income, including social insurance contributions, taxes on expenditure, including rates, and taxes on capital.
