Vol. 252 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers (Resumed). - Meath Telephone Kiosk.

53.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will provide a telephone kiosk at Castletown, Navan, County Meath.

Provision of a kiosk at Castletown is not warranted at present but one is likely to be provided there in three years or so under the five year programme for more rapid extension of kiosk facilities in rural areas.

Would the Minister consider speeding up this matter since the post office is being moved from the centre of the village and, subsequently, a telephone will not be available in the village?

I do not think I would.

May I repeat a suggestion I made during the debate on the Estimate and ask the Minister if he will consider having erected a cheaper type of kiosk rather than erecting the more expensive one, since this seems to be the problem, and using the telephones that are in the post offices but which are not available after normal hours?

The suggestion made by Deputy Tully during the debate on the Estimate is being considered.

Would these cheaper kiosks be more breakable than the present ones?

No, not if they are built of concrete blocks and left open which seems to be the type that is needed.
