Vol. 253 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballymun (Dublin) Health Centre.

7.

asked the Minister for Health whether he has approved of the tender in respect of the new health centre at Ballymun, Dublin.

My Department is at present awaiting the submission of information from the Eastern Health Board in regard to certain points arising in connection with the tenders. When these issues have been cleared a decision on the tenders will be given.

Can the Minister say, bearing in mind previous statements in this House that the health centre would be finished by July of last year, when he would expect to have it tendered?

Well, this whole matter was pretty well discussed here on 11th March last when the Minister for Health, Deputy Childers, said that the matter was receiving priority.

Is the Minister not aware that this has been receiving priority for some time, that there is gross overcrowding in this dispensary and that there is urgent need either for expansion of the existing temporary dwellings or for a start to be made on the permanent building?

The Minister is perfectly well aware of the situation in Ballymun and he is alive to the fact that this work needs to be done.

Did I understand the Minister to say that he is awaiting certain information from the Eastern Health Board?

That is right.

Could the Minister indicate the sort of information he is awaiting?

It is in connection with some of the proposed changes to the actual building itself.
