Vol. 253 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Low Income Families.

1.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state, with particular reference to paragraph 3.12 of the Report of Committee on Review of State Expenditure in relation to Agriculture, if studies of low income families in Ireland are currently being made or have been recently completed under the auspices of any Department of State; and, if so, if and when they will be published.

The Western Regional Office of the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries has recently completed a study of the low income problem in farming in the West of Ireland and its report is at present under consideration by the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries. No decision has yet been taken as to publication of this report.

Certain information on low income families, in urban areas only, was collected, inter alia, in the Household Budget Inquiry undertaken by the Central Statistics Office during 1965-66. The available information is published in Household Budget Inquiry, 1965-66, published by the Stationery Office in August, 1969.
