Vol. 253 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fertiliser Imports.

29.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state in respect of the years 1969, 1970 and 1971 the quantity of high unit granular fertilisers imported by reciprocal arrangement under the provisions of the Anglo-Irish Free Trade Agreement.

The imports from Britain of high unit granular fertilisers were 17,329 tons in the year 1969, 17,511 tons in the year 1970 and 3,968 tons in the first three months of 1971. The Anglo-Irish Free Trade Area Agreement does not provide for any reciprocal arrangement for the importation of high unit granular fertilisers. Following the receipt of complaints of dumping, arrangements were made with the British manufacturers and the Irish importers to limit imports of these fertilisers so as not to cause material injury to the Irish industry.
