Mr. O'Donnell

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will state in relation to Shannon Airport the total State investment in (a) the Airport, (b) the industrial estate and (c) housing and community services.

Up to 31st March, 1970, the latest date for which figures are available, State investment in Shannon Airport amounted to £7.832 million and State capital amounting to £15.345 million made up as follows, had been made available to the Shannon Free Airport Development Company Limited—

Share capital taken up by the Minister for Finance in the Shannon Free Airport Development Company Limited

£7.215m.

Repayable advances issued by the Minister for Finance to the company

£5.419m.

Non-repayable grants to industrialists

£2.491m.

Grants equivalent to those payable under the Housing Acts

£0.220m.

Total for Shannon Free Airport Development Company Limited

£15.345m.

The share capital is used for the provision of factory buildings and the repayable advances are used for the provision of dwellings and community services for the purposes of the industrial estate.

Mr. O'Donnell

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the total number of employees in Shannon Airport and in the Shannon Industrial Estate.

At 31st March, 1971, the total number of employees in Shannon Airport was 1,905 and in the industrial estate was 4,760.
