Vol. 253 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Meat Exports.

22.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will state in respect of the Meat Export Guarantee Scheme the amount paid by (a) the Irish Exchequer and (b) the British Exchequer in respect of Irish beef exports during the year 1970-71.

23.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will state in respect of the Meat Export Guarantee Scheme the amount paid by (a) the Irish Exchequer and (b) the British Exchequer in respect of Irish exports of mutton and lamb in 1970-71.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 22 and 23 together.

Total payments under the export guarantee schemes in the financial year 1970-71 were £3,794,000 for beef and £56,000 for mutton and lamb. The total contribution payable by the British Government for that year is approximately £1,109,000, of which approximately £91,000 is in respect of mutton and lamb.

I asked at (a) for the payments by the Irish Exchequer and not for the total. It would be more helpful if the Minister could answer the question I asked. However, it is not very important. I can get the figure by subtraction.

Yes, would the Deputy do that?
