Vol. 253 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Meath Housing.

32.

asked the Minister for Local Government what action he is taking in regard to agreement scheme 1970 for 54 isolated cottages submitted to him by Meath County Council.

No proposals have been submitted to my Department for the acceptance of tenders for these cottages. I understand that tenders have been received by the council and are being considered. The council has requested the Department to investigate the possibility of having ten of the dwellings provided by firms who have submitted proposals to me under the low-cost housing project. Four firms have been asked to submit quotations.

33.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he expects to be in a position to sanction (a) the tender and (b) the loan for the new housing scheme at Enfield, County Meath.

I sanctioned Meath County Council's proposal to accept a tender for this scheme last week. Their loan proposal is now being examined and a decision on it will be given as soon as possible.

Is it possible to undertake an examination of the loan proposals simultaneously with an examination of the tender proposals so that there will not be the usual delay between the sanctioning of the tender and the sanctioning of the loan?

Consideration of the loan application is normally deferred pending the receipt of tender proposals.

The Department has a fairly good idea of what is involved.

But a separate Department is involved.

It gives the Department an excuse to hold up houses.

I think everyone is aware that I am not anxious to hold up any houses.
