Vol. 253 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Garda Patrols.

44.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will make arrangements to have an adequate Garda patrol provided at night in Palmerstown, County Dublin.

I am informed by the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána that the existing arrangements for the policing of the Palmerstown area provide as good a service as is possible in present circumstances.

Is the Minister aware that there is considerable complaint in Palmerstown that there is no patrol there and that the amount of vandalism that takes place between nightfall and 12 or 1 o'clock in the morning is fantastic? This is a widespread complaint going back, I suppose, over two years. It is not reasonable for the Minister to accept what he has been given as information about Palmerstown. There is no patrol in Palmerstown; there is no foot patrol and by the time they get a squad car——

There are patrols both on foot and by motorcycle from Lucan every night.

I am told by the residents—I should like the Minister to know this—that there is no patrol and that by the time a squad car is secured the delinquents are gone and that this is unsatisfactory.

There is a squad car from Lucan and Clondalkin.

I ask the Minister to look into the matter again.
