Vol. 253 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sub-Postmasters' Pensions.

84.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs why sub-postmasters who retire after 35 to 40 years' service are deprived of a pension.

The conditions of appointment of sub-postmasters do not provide for a pension as sub-postmasters are contractors, not employees. A sub-postmaster, however, becomes eligible for a gratuity on relinquishing his appointment, subject to his having held it for seven years.
