Vol. 253 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Decentralisation of Departments.

33.

asked the Minister for Finance if, further to the statement of the Taoiseach of 16th November, 1967, that it had been decided that the headquarters work of the Department of Education would be transferred to Athlone and that of the Department of Lands to Castlebar, he will make a progress report on this matter.

The position remains as stated in replies to questions on this subject on 27th November, 1969 and 28th January, 1971.

Would the Minister care to comment on that portion of the question which asks for a progress report on this matter?

It would not be feasible to give a progress report in the sense that there has not been very much progress.

Has it not been completely shelved?

No, there has been no change in the decision.

It has been completely shelved and the Minister knows it.

There has been some progress but not such as would justify a progress report.

It has not been shelved; it has been pigeonholed.
