Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - National Travel Agency.

9.

Mr. O'Donnell

asked the Minister for Transport and Power what is the present position regarding the proposal to purchase an interest in Cooks Travel Ltd.; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

10.

Mr. O'Donnell

asked the Minister for Transport and Power what is the present position regarding the establishment of a national travel agency.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 9 and 10 together.

I would refer the Deputy to the answers which I gave to his questions on these subjects on 30th March last. In the course of my replies I explained that Bord Fáilte and the other State agencies concerned were examining the selling operations for Irish tourism. This examination covers the need for and the feasibility of a national travel agency. The possible advantages of acquiring an interest in Thomas Cook and Son Ltd. also fall to be considered in this context. The examination of these matters is proceeding.
