Vol. 253 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Recovery of Benefit.

12.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why his Department has refused to carry out its legal obligation to recover benefit lost by a person (name supplied) by reason of his employer's failure to stamp his cards.

It is quite incorrect to say that my Department has refused to carry out its obligation in this matter. The legal authorities were, in fact, instructed by the Department to take any necessary action for recovery from the employer concerned of the amount of unemployment benefit lost by the insured person in question. Judgment by default was obtained in August last and an execution order is in the hands of the sheriff. The chief State solicitor is making inquiries from the sheriff as to the present position.
