asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries what effect the recent alteration in the demand for and the price of butter for the UK will have on the price of milk to dairy farmers.

While butter prices in the UK have increased substantially in recent weeks, the price being received for Irish butter on the UK market continues to be less than the fixed price at which An Bord Bainne purchases the butter from creameries here. Since sale of Irish butter in the UK continues to involve export losses, the recent price increases there do not affect the price payable to creamery milk suppliers in this country.
