Vol. 253 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - An Bord Uchtála.

55.

asked the Minister for Justice why, in view of the fact that adoption as an important social service has had such significant support in Cork and the whole Munster area, another Cork based representative has not been appointed to fill the vacancy on An Bord Uchtála caused by the recent resignation of the Cork representative.

Appointments to an Bord Uchtála are not made on the basis of geographic representation and the nature of the board's functions is such that the fact that a member resides in one part of the country rather than another is immaterial.

For the convenience of adopters, however, the board holds meetings in various places throughout the country.

The actual placement of children for adoption is not a function of the board and is largely the work of local adoption societies.
