Vol. 253 No. 12

Written Answers. - Bilingual Road Signs.

166.

asked the Minister for Local Government at whose request bilingual road signs in West Galway are to be changed to signs in Irish only.

The decision that the names of places in the Gaeltacht should in future be shown in Irish only on traffic signs within the Gaeltacht was taken by my predecessor, with the approval of the Government.

167.

asked the Minister for Local Government the cost of changing road signs in West Galway from bilingual to Irish only.

The information sought is not available to me. Bord Fáilte, by whom such signs are provided, are in course of carrying out detailed surveys of Gaeltacht areas at present with a view to formulating the programme of replacement of signs.
