The approved strength of the Garda Síochána for the years 1930, 1940, 1950, 1960 and at 30th April, 1971 was 7,212, 7,518, 7,491, 7,542 and 6,762 respectively.
The number of indictable crimes committed in the years 1930, 1940, 1950, 1960 was 6,640, 9,014, 12,231 and 15,375 respectively. The report of the commissioner on crime for the year ended 30th September, 1970 has not yet come to hand.
