Vol. 254 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Meath Farm.

58.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission have yet made a decision as to the acquisition of the farm of a person (name supplied) at Tankardstown, Navan, County Meath; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Proceedings for compulsory acquisition of the estate referred to by the Deputy have reached the stage where an appeal lodged against the price fixed by the Land Commission is awaiting determination by the appeal tribunal.

I know the Minister is only acting for the Minister for Lands; but could he say how long this has been under consideration and whether he considers it fair either to the person from whom the land is being bought or to people who expect to receive an allocation of it to have it left there for the number of years which it has been left?

I know that the compulsory acquisition list appeared in Iris Oifigiúil in October, 1968. Subsequently, there was no objection but an objection has been raised against the agreement on price. This is pending at the moment.

Does the Minister know when it is likely to be decided?

It is hoped the appeal will be heard about the middle or the end of July.
