Vol. 254 No. 1

Written Answers. - Boats Statistics.

122.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the total number of the following boats in Ireland as well as the number of newly added similar boats during the last five years: (1) sailing boats with keel under approximately 30 feet, (2) sailing boats with keel over 30 feet, (3) motor boats (displacement boats) in length approximately 20-30 feet, (4) motor boats with speeds between 7 and 15 knots and (5) motor boats with the effect of 20-40 horsepower.

The information on record in regard to Irish-registered vessels is that contained in the statutory register maintained in the General Register and Record Office, 27 Eden Quay, Dublin, pursuant to the Merchant Shipping Act, 1894, and the Mercantile Marine Act, 1955, which is open to inspection at a fee of 50 pence. The register does not, however, record length of keel or speed of vessel. I should also explain that vessels not exceeding 15 net tons other than fishing boats are not required to be registered. The statistical data required by the Deputy are not therefore available.
