Vol. 254 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Fire Regulations.

49.

asked the Minister for Local Government what steps are taken to ensure that singing pubs with an accommodation area of not less than 500 square feet, being places of public resort within the Dublin Corporation bye-laws relating to such places, conform to the fire regulations.

The enforcement of bye-laws relating to places of public resort in the Dublin area is a matter entirely for the corporation.

With regard to fire protection generally, I have recently written to all sanitary authorities reminding them of the special responsibility which rests on them to make reasonable provision for the protection of persons and property against outbreaks of fire in potentially dangerous buildings, including singing pubs, and have asked them to enforce, as far as possible, their powers under existing legislation.

Can the Minister say when this instruction or advice was given?

Recently.

How recently?

Within the past few days. This circular was prepared before the Deputy put down the question. As the Deputy appreciates, we cannot issue circulars instantaneously.

Except in regard to unemployment.

I thank the Minister for the action he has taken.
