Vol. 254 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Reconstruction Grant Payment.

58.

asked the Minister for local Government if he will pay a reconstruction grant to a person (name supplied) in County Cork who has been waiting for payment for some months.

A reconstruction grant was paid in this case on 27th October, 1970. A water and sewerage grant will be paid within the next few days.

Can the Minister state why it was necessary to put down a question on this matter in view of the fact that the Department must have received about 40 applications for payment of the grant and that the only excuse they could offer was that they could not determine who the applicant was?

I think the Deputy himself has contributed to the confusion in this case by making representation about a reconstruction grant which was not the grant that was in question.

The man has not got the reconstruction grant——

It was paid in October, 1970. The delay was due mainly to confusion arising from the fact that there are three people with the name of Tim Coughlan living in the townland of Ballydehob.

The money must have been sent to one of the other men then.

The man was paid in October, 1970.

I am calling Question No. 59.
