Vol. 254 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Post Office Employees' Political Rights.

115.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of the statement made in Cork on 2nd June by the chairman of the national executive of the Post Office Workers' Union concerning the political rights of post office employees; and if he will state the progress made to date on the claim.

I have read newspaper reports of the statement referred to. The position is that a number of claims seeking freedom of political expression and action for the members of various post office grades are at present being considered by the departmental council under the scheme of conciliation and arbitration for the Civil Service and it would be inappropriate for me to comment while the claims are under consideration by the council.

Will the Minister sanction whatever recommendations are made to him? Sin ceist eile.

That is a separate question.
