asked the Minister for Social Welfare the total number of insured persons whose applications for unemployment benefit were disallowed by the deciding officer or the appeals officer in each of the years 1968, 1969 and 1970 on the grounds of (a) direct participation in a trade dispute, (b) maintaining or financing a trade dispute as defined in the Social Welfare (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1967, and (c) belonging to a trade or class of workers any of whom immediately before the commencement of the stoppage were participating in or financing or directly interested in the dispute.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether, before the summer recess, he will make available a selection of cases decided by the appeals officer so as to enable members of the Oireachtas to determine the working of the Social Welfare (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1967, in so far as it relates to trade disputes.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, Question Nos. 170 and 171 are being taken together. Statistics maintained by my Department do not include the particulars requested in the first question and compilation of the desired information is not practicable.

The answer to the second question is in the negative.
