Vol. 255 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Offaly Bog.

33.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power what plans Bord na Móna have for the development of Belair bog, Ballycumber, County Offaly.

I am informed by Bord na Móna that Belair bog, County Offaly is intended for development in the long-term as an extension to the Boora group of bogs which feed Ferbane power station. Some areas of the surface of this bog contain moss peat, and the board say that it is likely that this grade of peat may be produced for processing in one of their existing moss peat factories.

It is not possible at present to say when production of milled peat or moss peat may commence.
