Vol. 255 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Health Centres.

3.

asked the Minister for Health when he expects work to start on the new health centres at Ballymun and Kilbarrack, Dublin.

My Department are at present examining certain technical information relating to the lowest tenders received for the Ballymun scheme. This information has been received recently on request from the Eastern Health Board. When this examination has been completed I will inform the Eastern Health Board when work on the scheme may commence.

The Eastern Health Board from whom proposals regarding the Kilbarrack scheme were first received on 21st May last has been asked by my Department to furnish certain necessary information regarding the range of services and the extent of the accommodation proposed for the Kilbarrack health centre. When this information is made available the proposal will be examined by my Department. It is not possible to say at this stage when work on the scheme will commence.

Is the Minister aware that in July, 1969, he said that work would commence very shortly on the Ballymun health centre and that this answer is a repetition of answers he has given since then?

We are coming to the end of the Ballymun health centre and delay is occasioned by examination of the technical facilities and the costs in the various tenders.

Now that the saga of providing this health centre is nearing an end, would the Minister consider beginning this difficult task in other areas?

There will have to be an extension of health centres.

Let us piously hope that it will not take as long as it took in Ballymun.
