Vol. 255 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drinking Hours.

45.

asked the Minister for Justice whether, in view of the difficulties which the ten minute period allowed as drinking up time causes, he will consider introducing legislation to extend it.

I shall have the suggestion examined in the course of the preparation of the Bill to consolidate the Licensing Acts, which will be preceded by a Bill to amend some technical and procedural aspects of the Acts. There is, however, no commitment on the part of the Government to any change in the substance of the law relating to the sale of intoxicating liquor.

The particular change advocated by the Deputy is one that may have some merit, though many people would object to an extension of the length of the drinking-up period as it presumably means a later closing time.

A Cheann Comhairle, I did not think that there was any licence on the Rock of Cashel. I was not aware that there was any licence on the Rock of Cashel.

That is a separate question.
