The planning of major hospital projects is normally carried out by the sponsoring authority, i.e., the health board or voluntary hospital authority concerned in each individual case. These authorities engage an architect to carry out the detailed planning work, subject to the overall supervision of my Department. The physicians and surgeons attached to the particular hospital would, of course, advise on medical aspects of the planning.
