Vol. 255 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water Schemes.

54.

asked the Minister for Local Government the reason for the delay in paying grants to participants in the Castlebourke group water scheme, Clogher, Claremorris, County Mayo.

Two grants will be paid to the group very shortly and payment of the remaining grants will issue when the work to which they relate has been satisfactorily completed. There was no undue delay in dealing with the case.

55.

asked the Minister for Local Government the position regarding the proposed group water scheme at Gurteen, Dunmore, County Galway.

The results of the quality tests referred to in my reply to Question No. 62 on 11th February, 1971, have since been received and confirm that the quality of the water in the proposed source is satisfactory. The quantity tests are still in progress.

56.

asked the Minister for Local Government the up-to-date position regarding the proposed group water scheme at Kiltevna, Dunmore, County Galway.

As the Deputy is aware, my Department is in correspondence with the ESB regarding the design of this scheme.

57.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that there are not enough local government officials to deal with the volume of applications for group water schemes in Counties Galway and Roscommon; and what action he proposes to take in the matter.

I have recently made new arrangements for inspections of group water supply schemes in Counties Galway and Roscommon. These new arrangements will improve the position of inspections in these counties.

58.

asked the Minister for Local Government what steps are being taken by Kerry County Council to commence the relaying of the old Caragh Lake-Killorglin water main, so that supplies to the guest houses and farm houses along the route may be maintained.

I understand that the council have ordered the materials and that work on the scheme is expected to commence shortly.

59.

asked the Minister for Local Government when the Kerry County Council will lay the water main from the mainland at Portmagee to Valentia Island, County Kerry.

In view of the necessity to conserve available capital for housing and other essential services only sanitary services works of the highest priority can be allowed to proceed at present. Having regard to the rating given to this project by the county council in their priority list of sanitary services schemes, I cannot indicate when work on it can be commenced.

60.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he expects to sanction a booster pump which was requested by Kildare County Council on 7th May, 1971, to improve the water supply in the Kill/Johnstown area.

I have sanctioned this proposal.
