84.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the total number of telephone applicants; and how soon their applications will be attended to.

There are about 16,000 applications for telephones on hands at present including about 1,000 in North County Dublin. Of these approximately 5,000, including about 150 in North County Dublin, are either in course of provision or will be attended to within the next few months. A large proportion of the remaining applications will be dealt with before the end of the financial year. It is not practicable to give a reliable estimate as to when service will be provided for all the existing applicants.
