Vol. 255 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Imported Goods Marking.

11.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is satisfied that goods originating from Namibia (South West Africa) are adequately marked with the country of origin.

There is no general requirement to have imported goods marked with an indication of the country of origin. However, restriction orders made under the Merchandise Marks Act, 1931, prohibit the importation of certain descriptions of goods unless they bear an indication of origin. I understand that the descriptions of goods featuring in trade with Namibia are not within the scope of any of these orders.
