Vol. 255 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dairy Research.

27.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if, in view of the vast potential for the dairy industry within the EEC, he will immediately allocate more money for dairy research; if he is aware of the lack of equipment and research workers at the dairy research centre at Moorepark, Fermoy, County Cork; and what remedial action he proposes to take in the matter.

The amount provided by the Government to An Foras Talúntais by way of grants for agricultural research has been increasing steadily from year to year. In the present year the figure is £2,440,000 compared with £1,386,000 five years ago. The amount allocated to dairying research at Moorepark is a matter for determination by the council of the institute.
