Vol. 255 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Oil Refinery.

29.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if the Government have yet made a decision on the question of whether plans for a new £80 million oil refinery at Bantry, County Cork should be allowed to go ahead; if he is aware of the great need for the sanction of such a project; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I understand from the IDA that they have a number of proposals for the erection of an oil refinery, some of them with Bantry as a possible site. While one proposal has been found not to merit the support of the authority by way of industrial grant, consideration of the other proposals will take some time yet and I regret that at this stage I am not in a position to make any further statement.
