Vol. 255 No. 7

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Maternity Hospital.

2.

asked the Minister for Health the total number of maternity beds in the Rotunda Hospital, Dublin which are out of commission; and what plans his Department have to provide alternative maternity bed accommodation on the north side of Dublin city.

Arising out of building work being carried out at the Rotunda Hospital there is, I understand, a temporary reduction in the total number of maternity beds available, amounting to five beds. Arrangements have been made by the Rotunda Hospital authorities with another maternity unit to cater for any demand which cannot be met during the course of the present difficulties caused by the building work.

My Department are giving close attention to the question of maternity accommodation needs on the north side of the city and have proposals under consideration to cope with an expansion in demand.
