Vol. 255 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Garden of Remembrance.

24.

asked the Minister for Finance the hours of opening of the Garden of Remembrance, Parnell Square, Dublin; and if arrangements are made to have it open late on Sundays during the summer months.

The present hours of opening of the Garden of Remembrance are:

May-September, inclusive

9.30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

October

11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

November to April, inclusive

11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The question of extending the hours of opening is under consideration.

Does the Parliamentary Secretary not agree that the garden should be left open, particularly during the summer and, more particularly still, on Sunday evenings to afford people the opportunity of visiting it? Does he not agree it was extraordinary to have is closed at 7 p.m. on the evening of the day on which it was opened when many people were anxious to visit it but were debarred from doing so because it was closed at 7 p.m.?

I thank the Deputy for his remarks but, as I said, the whole question is under consideration at the moment and the Deputy's remarks will be taken into account in that consideration.
