Vol. 255 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Voting Age.

68.

asked the Minister for Local Government when the Government will introduce legislation to amend the Constitution to grant the right to vote at 18 years.

I am not yet in a position to say when the necessary legislation will be introduced.

69.

asked the Minister for Local Government in what EEC countries voting at 18 years is allowed.

I understand that the only EEC member country which allows votes at 18 years is the Federal Republic of Germany.

Is there any country where votes are allowed at 19 years?

The question referred to votes at 18 years and, as I have told the House, the only EEC member country which allows votes at 18 is the Federal Republic of Germany.
