Vol. 255 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Waterford Land Purchases.

29.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the cause of the delay in paying farmers in the Ballinacourty area of Dungarvan, County Waterford for lands purchased by CIE for the purpose of extending the railway line to the new factory there; and if steps will be taken to have the farmers paid immediately.

Under a Railway Works Order made by my predecessor on 4th December, 1968, under the provisions of section 6 of the Transport Act, 1963, CIE were empowered to acquire compulsorily lands required for the construction of an extension railway to Ballinacourty, County Waterford. Compensation is payable by the board to the several persons having estates or interests in such land.

CIE have informed me that in accordance with the procedure applicable under the Railway Works Order, notices were served by the board in December, 1968/January, 1969, on the landowners concerned, requiring them to submit particulars of their respective estates or interests in the land being compulsorily acquired and to set out the compensation claimed by them as a result of the acquisition. So far, particulars have not been submitted to the board by any of the landowners nor by any solicitor acting on their behalf.
