Vol. 255 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Assistance.

32.

(Cavan) asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of people who were disqualified from receiving unemployment assistance under the Unemployment Assistance (Employment Period) (Amendment) Order, 1971, and who are now in receipt of home assistance or similar allowances from health authorities.

The number of persons disqualified for receipt of unemployment assistance during the current employment period who were in receipt of home assistance on 26th June, 1971, was 203.

(Cavan): Can the Parliamentary Secretary say how many applications are under consideration?

I am afraid I would not have that information.

(Cavan): How many have been refused?

I have not that information.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary say if the extra grants to be given to councils for local improvement to alleviate the effects of this order have been paid over to all local authorities?

I would not have that information.

That is a separate question.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary not agree that rates are high enough on ratepayers without the Government putting this further burden on them? Would he further agree that, when this was being debated here, we were told that this Government order would not put any further burden on the ratepayers and it is doing that now?

That seems to be a separate question.

It is a separate question.

It certainly is not. The ratepayers of Cavan and every other county are paying for the Government's faux pas.
