Vol. 255 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Garda Stations.

115.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of Garda stations in the constituency of Dublin north-west.

At present there are two Garda stations located in Dublin north-west constituency—one at Cabra and the other at Finglas. The area is also policed from the following stations: Ballyfermot, Blanchardstown, Mountjoy, Bridewell, Santry and Whitehall. It is proposed to erect a new Garda station at Ballymun, which will also serve part of the constituency.

The Minister is aware that the Garda barracks in Finglas is, in fact, a sub-station of the Cabra Garda barracks and that there is only one Garda barracks left now that he has removed Chapelizod Garda barracks?

No; it is a sub-district, not a sub-station—a station in its own right.

A sub-district station?

Yes, but so is every other station that is not a district station.

Is the Minister not aware of the difficulty there is with this sub-district station having to work under the bye-laws of the county and take their cases to the county court in Kilmainham instead of going to the Bridewell, and that this greatly hampers their efficiency in the area?

I do not accept that that is so at all.
